Queensland Election 2015

QldElection

That’s it – votes have been cast and the counting can begin. Early news suggests that Labor could actually win government tonight. Dare we dream?

An early exit poll shows a statewide swing of 16.8%.

The premier’s seat of Ashgrove is showing Kate Jones with a 2PP lead of 56% to 44%. Good bye Campbell. Don’t let the door hit your @r$e on the way out.

7:25 edit.

Antony Green has Labor winning 42, LNP 36 at this stage.

8:30 update

I’ll tentatively open a second bottle of red 😀 It’s still looking possible that Labor could form government after this election. It’s interesting (and entertaining) watching the rhetoric of the LNP commentators in denial of what’s happening. We’ve even got the idiotic Tim Nicholls bringing up the hoary old “you never brought in a surplus budget” with Wayne Swan. (ABC)

Similar squabbling over on channel 7 – haven’t bothered watching 9.

8:50 update

Contrasted nicely with an excellent victory speech by Kate Jones in Ashgrove.

10:00 update

All right Campbell – you’re yesterday’s man. Let’s hear from Annastacia!

  1. Anyone following the election coverage – put your observations here during the evening. I’ll try to keep the post updated as results become clearer, but I’ll have to burn some cow on the barbie shortly, and perhaps open a bottle of red 🙂

  2. I noticed that many seats only have around three candidates. Not like NSW where the list are much longer. Katter Party big loser. Swings seem to be occurring in seats that favour Labor.

  3. Highest vote ever in Queensland. Stories must be true that more people, are enrolling. Including those in their 20s and 30s who have not bothered before. Will be interested to see what the informal volte is. Wonder how many Labor voters where turned away, believing they could not vote.

Could only mean, young are becoming involved.

  4. Very good Michael. Haven’t seen that lonely bike rider down your way. Still blaming Labor.

  5. Green No chance LNP majority government. Labor ahead. Could be Labor majority. Labor minority. 43 39 seats.

  6. Entertaining watching the implosion of LNP “leadership” team. Squabbling, disagreement on what’s happening, denial – LOVING it! 😀

  7. I wonder where all the fed MPs are tonight. Found better things to do, I supposed. Maybe busy preparing their scrip for tomorrows onslaught.

  8. What is reassuring that there was also a record numbers of voting. That is against the trend of the last couple decades. Has Cando appeared tonight.

  9. It was an interesting night. Special mention of Wayne Swan for teaching us how to spell Palaszczuk (PALA Sydney Zoo, Canberra Zoo UK), Tim Nicholls for doing a reasonable impression of Hitler in the Berlin bunker sometime in 1945 and Jane Prentice for being honest – her job is on the line.

I hope that the ALP does actually practice what they preach and this result, the Victorian result ensure that there is a kinder and gentler policy in Canberra commencing with Abbott’s speech on Monday.
